What is A 4D Ultrasound?
Dr. Jill Gibson uses cutting-edge 3D and 4D ultrasound technology that can let you see your baby’s face for the first time live in amazing 4D motion. Traditional sonography and ultrasounds use sound waves to generate an image of your baby in the womb. However, a 4D ultrasound not only creates a three-dimensional image of your baby, it also offers live video so you can see your baby move, smile and yawn — an exhilarating experience that stays with you for the rest of your life.
Are 4D Ultrasounds Safe?
3D and 4D ultrasounds are safe for both mother and baby. Although they are not typically used to diagnose prenatal issues, these vivid, live images may sometimes help your doctor identify problems with your baby. You and your doctor can get the best view of your baby at 27-34 weeks gestational age. They can also be used in earlier stages of pregnancy to determine your child’s gender.
The 4D Ultrasound Procedure
You’ll lie down comfortably on your back for an abdominal ultrasound. The sonography technician puts a special gel on your abdomen, which helps carry the sound waves. The technician then holds a probe against your belly and moves it around until she gets a clear image. Dr. Gibson and our experienced sonographers are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have before you schedule.
